Dan “Hollywood” Henderson was born August 24th, 1970. He has been wrestling since he was five years old . His dedication to the sport through the years helped win him spots on both the 1992 and 1996 USA Olympic Wrestling Teams. In 1997 he was invited by friend, Randy Couture, to join the Rico Chiapparelli Real American Wrestling Team and train in martial arts. This training would prepare him for the Brazil Open 97 in June where he would defeat both Crezio De Souza and Eric Smith in the first round.
The following year Henderson would make an appearance at UFC 17. While his opponents Allen Goes and Carlos Newton would both survive the 15 minute round, Henderson would win by decision in each case. Despite his victories in UFC, he would decline future invites and head to Japan to appear in the Rings: King of Kings championship in 1999. The second half of the championship would occur 4 months later in 2000, and Henderson would go on to defeat each finalist, winning this open weight tournament.
From here it was only a short hop to PRIDE where Henderson fights today. In his six year history with PRIDE, he has faced some of the best in the ring including Wanderlei Silva and Murilo Bustamante. During their second fight, that occured on December 31st, 2005, Bustamante was defending his Welterweight title. Though Henderson was able to defeat Bustamente with a knockout during their first match two years previous, Bustamente managed to keep up with Henderson for the entire length of the match. However, Henderson would be crowned the new champion after a split decision.
Dan Henderson is set to face returning fighter Vitor Belfort in Las Vegas on October 21st, 2006 at PRIDE 32: The Real Deal.
