Anderson “The Spider” Da Silva was born April 14th, 1975 in Brazil and has since become a rising sensation in the world of MMA. Once a member of the famous Chute Boxing Academy he soon left to help form the Muay Thai Dream Team. His fighting styles of choice are Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is also considered one of top fighters of his weight class (185lbs) in MMA. His striking skills are exceptional as he has defeated many opponents with his fists and kicks alone, never having to resort to pins.
Silva began his career in his native Brazil in the Mecca Organization. After a single loss he would go on to a 9-win streak. From there he signed on with the Shooto Organization and faced off against their prize fighter Hayato Sakurai, defeating him, and claiming Sakurai’s Shooto Welterweight Title for himself. In 2002 he joined PRIDE for several matches including against Carlos Newton whom he decimated. His record would be smudged during PRIDE 26 when he lost to underdog Daiju Takase. Silva would leave PRIDE behind to fight in other promotions across the world, returning to PRIDE for one more fight in December, 2004 only to lose to Ryo Chonan.
Silva has recently signed on with the UFC for several fights. His first match was against Chris Leben (A contestant on Ultimate Fighter 1) during Ultimate Fight Night 5 on June 28th, 2006. Chris Leben had since been victorious in his last 5 matches and was clearly the fan-favorite compared to the practically unknown Anderson Silva. Silva surprised the crowd however when he knocked out Leben with a flurry of strikes and a knee in 48 seconds of the match starting. UFC officials have since tallied a pole on who audiences would like to see Silva fight next, and it has been decided that he will face UFC champion Rich Franklin for the Middleweight belt on October 14th, 2006.
