Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg has lived a competitive life since his birth on May 7th 1972. Growing up amongst seven brothers, Frank was forced to adapt very quickly to keep up with them. “From having quick hands to snag the last piece of meat, quick feet to get out of the way of the shoes being flung from my moms foot to discipline us,” says Frank in a personal Bio on his site, “and let's not forget my gift for gab I was born with to convince my parents that it wasn't me who was causing trouble.” He claims that this was the beginning of his life-long goal to continuously improve his game, as it is simply part of his nature to do so.
Like many athletes, Frank had come to terms with the real possibility that a career in sports might not work out. Therefore he put together a contingency plan and earned a diploma for Public Affairs and Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1997. Through college his sport of choice would be wrestling, and after graduating he would even stay on as a coach until 2000.
His career in fighting “officially” began when he made $100 at a place called Billy Bobs. Through the start of his career he would fight in a few fighting promotions, but in November of 1999 he would get his big break as a fighter during PRIDE 8.
Frank moved to Los Angeles in 2000 after signing up with manager, and future business partner, Rico Chiapparelli. In the next two years he would fight in the World Fighting Alliance, where he would hold the WFA Welterweight title. In November of 2003 he would begin fighting in matches for UFC. He would go on to face Matt Hughes twice for a chance at the UFC Welterweight title but would be defeated both times by a rear naked choke. Frank does not like to dwell on his losses, but has sworn that he will learn from them in a huge effort to improve his techniques.
After a loss to Carlos Condit at Rumble on the Rock 9 he would become inactive to focus on his broadcasting job with PRIDE. He is scheduled to fight again on December 1st 2006 against Jason “Mayhem” Miller for the Icon Sport Middleweight title.
Frank Trigg currently lives with his wife and two kids, Frankie and Kiara. He owns a gym called the R1 Training Center with Chiapparelli, owns a line of athletic wear, and does a weekly show for MMA with co-host Ryan Bennett. Frank has created a good life for himself in the field of athletics that will keep him financially secure even when his fighting days are over.
