Topic: Lyoto Machida confirms meeting with Quinton Jackson, likely UFC 123

As expected former UFC light-heavyweight champions Lyoto Machida (16-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (30-8 MMA, 5-2 UFC) have agreed to meet for an upcoming fight. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported the matchup and November event date, which is expected to be UFC 123, earlier this month. Today, Machida confirmed the fight via Twitter, though he didn't specify the fight date. UFC 123 takes place Nov. 20, and the Machida vs. Jackson fight is expected to headline the show. Sources told MMAjunkie.com a few potential host cities are under consideration for the event. The fight obviously will have major implications on the UFC light-heavyweight title picture.

Meh for some reason I'm just not excited about this fight. I think it will be much like Rashad vs Rampage just without all the hype.

I'm not really excited to see Rampage fight at all regardless of who he's fighting.

Agree to disagree for me, I have lost all interest in Rampage; his last few fights have been snoozers. I think if the pre-shogun machida shows up, rampage is getting KTFO. It won't go to a decision IMO.

Yeah, have to agree to disagree definitely. I didn't find any of Rampage's recent fights boring at all.

I see a Rampage sitting back coking that hand while Machida chop, chop, chop, chops down those legs of his. It'll be a boring decision victory for Machida with no scratches to Rampage's face except being carried out of the ring for all those legs kicks he'll take. MACHIDA CHOP!

Thing with me is, I've become such a fanatic that I don't really ever find any MMA fight boring unless the guys literally decide to evade the entire time (like Silva/Maia). Mostly because when I'm watching, I like to think about which strategy both fighters will be using. It's not always about the knockouts or submissions, but the struggle to reach that point interests me. If it ends up being a grappling match, the fight for dominant positions intrigues me. When it's a legkick battle, I like watching a fighter utilize the plan to take away his opponent's base. I've even started to really enjoy the clinch/dirty boxing game, like Couture uses. Evans/Rampage and Shogun/Machida I were both exciting fights in my eyes.

I agree to a point, but if it's just one person throwing leg kicks and avoiding/circling/almost sprinting away from his engaging opponent than I'm a little annoyed. I won't be bored with it, but I think it'll definately be a slow paced fight. I don't see Rampage throwing a lot of anything other than chasing down Machida with Machida throwing leg kicks all 3 rounds. What I get irritated with is cocky show boating in the ring. That's when I'm irritated, but rarely am I 100% bored with it. I hope I'm wrong, but that's how I see it going down.

I hope Rampage comes in shape. If he is back to actually training hard.... well "training hard" for Rampage... he has the potential to KO Machida. I also think he could catch him on the ground with some good GnP. Im just not too sold on the idea that Quinton is actually gonna be coming back in top form though.

It should be intersting seeing Rampage try to get to machida. I know im excitited for this one! I think Rampage will be in better fighting condition this time since he was a little shellshocked i think from the ring rust he got after the time off and loss to rashad. Well see how Machida responds to his first loss though.

Same here...Some of my friends go "ugh" and get up to go to the bathroom when the fight ends up on the ground. I watched enthralled, just like with most of it.

I like the matchup. I think Lyoto is gonna send a message with this fight. Gonna send Rampage packing with kicks to the legs, body and head until he quits.

Re: Lyoto Machida confirms meeting with Quinton Jackson, likely UFC 123
I am interested to see what Machida looks like his first fight back since getting KTFO! It could be really dangerous for Rampage to be in the ring with him if he is focused and back to Mr.Miagi's teachings.
But if he is afraid of getting KO'd again, he in fact probably will get KO'd; which is essential IMO for rampage to stay relevant in the UFC. He can still put butts in the seats by all means but won't be in the belt picture.

Re: Lyoto Machida confirms meeting with Quinton Jackson, likely UFC 123
Im a Rampage fan and want him to win, but there are two things Id like to see from Rampage as a knock on effect from this fight - 1) Leave whores-lair and go to a proper gym in the states where he can get into the correct mindset. As much as i root for the English lads to do well, I just dont think Rampage is benefitting from having his arse kissed in England. He needs someone to beat the shit out of him for 9 weeks consecutively in order to be in shape and to be in the correct MINDSET for this fight. Being in England, in my opinion, is tantamount to separating himself from all that is UFC and if you want to climb the UFC ladder again, and as someone who has already made a name for himself in the world of MMA - a small gym in a startup mma nation is surely the wrong place to be. Back to Vegas with you Page! 2) Even if he loses this fight, I want to see an aggressive face on Rampage BECAUSE he feels aggressive - not the other way around where in fights of late he has had to make the facial expression to GET himself there. I want the old, pre PS3 Rampage back where he just wants to kickass...maybe Machida - a serious fighter who needs this win, will give him the kick up the hole he needs. Otherwise I fear old Rampage Jackson is lost to us forever beyond this fight.

Re: Lyoto Machida confirms meeting with Quinton Jackson, likely UFC 123
I agree with odonnell, he should comeback to America; where the competition level in the gyms and quality of training partners is more abundant than in the UK. Its completely true, no one here is going to kiss his ass and rub his feet. We all know he loves to be the center of attention, so if he were to come back and get in with a serious gym; he might have a chance against Lyoto. The only thing that is going to get rampage the W in this fight is a KO, he doesn't have the tools to beat Machida in a 3 round decision.
