Topic: Dana White On Liddell's Future After UFC 115
Dana White wrote:"Yes [a loss at UFC 115 would be the end of Chuck Liddell's career], and I think he will say the same thing. But let me tell you what the difference is - the difference before, when I wanted him retired, was that he wasn't doing the right thing. He was out partying every night and doing the wrong thing not the right thing. He wasn't living the life of a professional athlete... He and I sat down and talked and I will tell you what, he has kept his word. He has been phenomenal shape since the beginning of The Ultimate Fighter and it will be interesting to see how he does. Because Rick Franklin is tough, he is no joke. He had that war with Dan Henderson that many people believe he won, he had the war with Wanderlei Silva - he has fought all the best in the world."

Re: Dana White On Liddell's Future After UFC 115
Jesus! It says on that page that Liddell is coming in as a 100+ underdog!! Seriously? I think the difference with Dana this time is that he is in a totally different position than the last time Chuck fought. Unless I'm mistaken, isn't this the final fight on Chuck's existing contract? That kind of makes things a little different this time around, for better or for worse. (OK, I'll be honest; I was going somewhere with that idea and I totally lost my train of thought. Please feel free to step in for me, anybody. )

Well, +100 isn't being much of an underdog. That means you would bet $100 and get $200 back. Would be no different than if I would bet you a hundred bucks on a coin flip.

Wow, I should keep my betting to minimum, cuz I apparently don't know shit about odds.

Unless chuck gets himself the ko of the night, i am pretty sure he is done. i just have a hard time seeing the ufc giving chuck another contract unless he wins in some great factor, If he Belforts franklin i could see chcuk geting an extenson.

i could see chuck getting a matt hughes type contract.......nothing set in stone except that the ufc owns him for the next 6 fights....weather he takes even 1 of those fights or none of them the ufc still owns his rights keeping him from going to another org to maybe face fedor or anybody else.....

Agree. Either that or they'll give him a job commentating or something. He was the face of the UFC for so long, they won't just let him jump ship to another org.

Re: Dana White On Liddell's Future After UFC 115
So...now he's retired? I thought it was strange that the UFC would headline a card with a fight featuring 2 declining veteran stars- one of whom would Dana says needs to pack it in if he lost. Not very inspiring to pay $50.

I agree...and that's the entire reason I refused to purchase it. Two cards in a row that the main fights were non title fights...and the second of the two headlined two past champions that are declining.

Re: Dana White On Liddell's Future After UFC 115
I think as long as Chuck keeps training hard and wants to fight; he will have a contract with the UFC. Dana would never risk losing Chuck the way he did Hendo, as others said he is a huge marketing tool for the UFC. Chuck is only 40 years old; so if you go off of Randy's blue print he still has another 6 years or more of fights with the UFC (Randy is 46 years old, and still fighting). Who knows maybe Randy and Chuck could go again; they always put on a good show, IMO.

I would agree with you if chuck had lost by any other means than getting completely knocked stone out for the past 3 times, not even a shot and followed up just utterly out cold. Time to retire I think with his head held firmly 100 feet above the ground

Re: Dana White On Liddell's Future After UFC 115
Keep in mind, the "Randy blueprint" would not work for most fighters... much less Chuck Liddell. Chuck goes out there to be the KOer or the KOd; that's the way he has always wanted it, and that's the way it has always been. That is not a recipe for longevity at all. Randy has focused his career on taking minimal punishment in fights (not to mention he has taken much better care of his body internally than Chuck has over the years), while Chuck just goes out there to brawl. Those are two very different paths, and we are seeing the end result over these past few years.
