Topic: fabers big weapon
Heading into the first ever WEC pay-per-view, Faber has been the media hound for the promotion, handling a slew of interviews and press commitments, but the Sacramento, Calif., based fighter says that's nothing new and it didn't take anything away from his preparation for Aldo. "It's been pretty steady for me the last couple years. There's been a lot of PR, and a lot of different stuff that didn’t always pertain to the fight 100 percent, so I'm kind of used to it by now, and it's in my hometown so that cuts down the stress a little bit. I don't have to travel anywhere," said Faber when speaking to MMAWeekly Radio. Prior to his first loss to Mike Brown, it was Faber who was in a similar position that Jose Aldo currently sits: a champion with an almost unbeatable aura around him, and a shield of invincibility only seen in comic books. Faber knows that Aldo is tough, and he's a great fighter, but also knows the one thing he's not is unbeatable. "Had I not lost those two fights to Mike Brown, I'd be the guy that's invincible, and so on and so forth. So it's just a couple small mistakes that made that difference. In my head I'm still invincible, he's going to have to get in there and prove me wrong," Faber stated. If there's one thing that's certain heading into Saturday night's main event, Faber simply will not bow to Aldo just because he's knocked out every opponent he's faced in the WEC. He won't back down, and he won't be afraid, and Faber hopes that it's Aldo who knows what he's in for when they step in the cage together. "In my head I'm going to beat him up," said Faber. "It wasn't that intimidating watching him fight Brown. Brown didn't look very tough. It was a close first round, and Brown did some horrible stuff on the ground. He kind of got shoved down, off like half of a double, and then turned over to his belly. Thos punches didn’t even look that deadly on top of him, he just had the legs in, so that's not that intimidating to me." Facing adversity is nothing new to the former WEC champion. He fought Mike Brown the second time around with two broken hands for the majority of the fight, and when he couldn't throw punches, he decided to throw elbow strikes standing. Faber has decided that this is the fight where he takes a stand, and it's Jose Aldo who is going to have to put him down to win, because he won't tap. He won't give up. He simply will not quit. "I'm going to need to be unconscious for this fight to end," said Faber. "I think everyone at home knows that. You could cut off a leg or do whatever you're going to do, and I'm going to keep hobbling after the guy, and try to take him out. And I've got a lot of ways to win." http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/tem

Man, after last weeks SF card I don't think I have ever been more pumped to see Faber. Aldo is gonna be one hell of a tough fight for him, but I think he will once again be champ.

Re: fabers big weapon
I agree with Drifter to some extent on this one. No way is Aldo going to have an easy time with Faber. He won't run through him the way he did everyone else. The only time I have seen Faber run through was against Brown and Faber made a huge mistake to make that happen. He threw his chin into Brown's fist I am not going to sit here and say that I don't have concerns about this fight. I have come to like Faber a lot, mostly since Faber/Brown II. He earned HUGE amounts of respect from me during that fight. It has been said many times by many fighters, but when you hear Faber say "I have no quit in me" you can take that to the bank. If Aldo can put him on dream street then he wins. If not, Faber crowd surfs around the arena with the belt held in the air. It is one of those fights that I would never bet on. As much as my mind tells me that Aldo is the better fighter I still can't imagine Faber getting handled the way the rest have been handled. I can't bring myself to convincingly say, "Faber won't win this." That old cliche ya know. My mind is saying no, but my heart is saying yes. Faber will win this. fyi - bet with your mind

Re: fabers big weapon
you act as if jose aldo has pillow hands and that its not possible for him to ko faber.. you gotta be kidding me... faber made a huge mistake against brown and suffered for it and browns hands are no where near as quick as aldo and i think aldo hits much harder. grant it faber has probably the biggest heart in the game and is one of my favorite fighters but this is a bad match up for him and aldo is better than faber in everything. so on sunday you could come and read this and say damn he was right. ko for aldo in 2nd and in my heart i really want faber to win but i dont think he could stop aldo.

Re: fabers big weapon
Aldo is going to win this fight... he's too quick, powerful, and most importantly, mean for Faber. Faber likes to dance around and throw his flashy strikes while Aldo tries to knock you out with pretty much every blow. Heck, you can tell the difference in their attentions from their stances alone. I don't know how "easy" it will be but Aldo is coming out of this fight with a dominant (T)KO win.

Re: fabers big weapon
It`s not like Aldo has been KTFOing scrubs, he's pretty much a beast. However, I do think Faber is a little too smart to go charging in on him like he did with Brown the first time. I would expect Faber to try to ground Aldo and wear him down, grind out a win that way. And this is a pretty gay topic name but aren't you calling the kettle black? Mr. I love man chowder

aldo is no joke......... he could have finished that fight at any time. i believe that he wanted to beat up faber for 5 rounds in front of his home crowd.

Re: fabers big weapon
Aldo could have finished it at any time? Then why the hell didn't he? He clearly won the fight and took Faber outa his game plan, but Aldo obviously couldn't KO Faber at any time he wanted, other wise he would have. I don't buy for one second that he just went in there to "beat him up for 5 rounds". Why, you maybe asking yourself, put simply... thats not what he did. I had a small group over and we all loved the fight but after it, we gave Aldo the moniker "A Button" Aldo. He fought a repetitive and some what boring fight to ensure that he kept his title. He had a great game plan that took Faber outa his. My hats off to him he definitively won that fight. But "run through him" I say Nay. Unless of course you think Forrest "ran through" Rampage.

yes. aldo could have finished him. if you think he couldnt finish him you werent watching that fight. dana white said it best he was being extremely cautious... aldo battered faber. executed a great game plan and made faber look like a b level fighter. aldo was never in trouble and placed pressure on faber on the ground and standing. thats a really cute moniker ill think of that when i watch his next fight how could you relate rampage vs griffin to this fight? id love to see these guys <aldo faber>fight again

Re: fabers big weapon
Those leg kicks would have finished anyone else by the 3rd round. Aldo certainly dominated that fight but I wouldn't say he "ran through" Faber; that would imply he ended the fight in no time (see: Aldo`s last 6 fights). He could have (should have?) put more pressure to finish him but for whatever reason just chose to leg kick his way to a win. He probably though Faber`s legs would give out at some point. By the 5th round he pretty much was resigned to fight for the decision though, and for someone who tore through his competition up until then, it`s disapointing.

Re: fabers big weapon
How could you not compare the 2 fights? Aldo took Faber out at the legs, as did Forrest. My question still stands, if he could have then why didn't he?
dana white said it best he was being extremely cautious...
Hence the reason he couldn't KO Faber at any time, he wasn't committing because he was worried about getting caught or something. IMO If you don't finish the fight, that to me says you couldn't. This Anderson Silva mentality of "not finishing fights because I choose not to" is fuckin ludicrous and I for one don't believe thats what happened at WEC. As I said Aldo had a great gameplan and took the win decisively by taking Faber outa his game. Job well done.
thats a really cute moniker ill think of that when i watch his next fight
Are you saying he didn't repetitively kick and sweep the leg? Because, that seemed to me at least, to be a major part of his gameplan.

Re: fabers big weapon
God, after Many KO'd Brown thats all I could think of is the ass raping that Aldo will give him. WTF... IDK, what do you do at this point? I don't think anyone believes Gamburian is even a contender... especially the #1 spot. Damn that Brown fight fucked every thing up. Maybe Raphael Assuncao vs Manny for #1 spot fuck IDK.
