“With B.J., you have to keep him motivated. Hopefully after that performance he does see me as a threat and sees it as a potential great fight. I wanted to let him know that I was there and that’s how I feel about him…. I know I have a lot to learn and a lot to still improve upon, but at the end of the day, B.J. Penn is human. If he’s human, that means he can be beaten and, with the trainers that I have, I feel that anyone can be beat. I know that I’ll figure out a way to do it.” Kenny Florian talks about the reason he called out UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn during his post-fight comments after defeating Joe Stevenson at UFC 91: “Couture vs. Lesnar” via first round submission (rear naked choke) to earn the title shot. It was all to keep “The Prodigy” interested in the challenges that still remain in the 155-pound class — Penn is set to fight Georges St. Pierre at UFC 94 on January 31 for his 170-pound belt. If Penn sticks around the division Florian will be his next opponent, which would also serve as Florian’s second crack at the crown — he dropped a unanimous decision to Sean Sherk in 2006 for the vacant division title. I don't know that he can and will but I think Kenny has the best chance to win against BJ in the LW division as well....

Funny that the two guys in the picture are 2 of the top LW fighters in the world. Neither one looks very menacing.

I like kenny in this match up. Like most are saying i think kenny has the best chance in LW divison. He is also very entertaining to watch and his BJJ skills are very sick, maybe not like BJ's but he will put on a good ground war.

As much as it pains me to say this.... the Florian who tooled Stevenson I'd give 60-40 to beat Sherk.  I'm seriously impressed with Florian. He's proof that hard work and dedication and 100% immersion in something actually works. Think of what level he was on just 2yrs ago, and look at how far he's come. No shortcuts to the top. His nickname is still really bad but you can't win em all.

Look, Kenflo has grown on me, too. I gotta say, I used to hate him (primarily for his dumb shit comments from time to time, and his propensity towards using hellbows to cut, I am usually annoyed by fighters that throw just to cut), but the guy has exciting fights and seems to be somewhat less of an ass than I used to think. Asugar 2 has ALWAYS loved the guy, but I am coming around. That said, no one can beat BJ at 155. No...one. There are very few people at WELTERWEIGHT that I would say could beat him.
