I just talked to DW and this is what he had to say:
The split was amicable and the terms were decided on in advance. Cro Cops $350k (plus bonuses) contract had a clause in it stating that if he lost two consecutive fights Zuffa had the right to void the existing agreement and negotiate a new one.

CC never dreamed that he would be so overwhelmed by the level of competition he has faced in the UFC so far and and the losses have impacted him mentally.

The UFC did NOT cut Cro Cop from the roster nor did they threaten to make him sit out until his contract expired if he didn't take the pay cut deal.

Rather than negotiate a new contract with the UFC right now (and risk racking up more losses), Cro Cop wants to get a couple of tune up fights (and wins) in some of the smaller shows (no more tune up matches for him in the UFC) in hopes of rebuilding his confidence and getting himself back on track.

DW understood completely and supported Cro Cop in his decision. The last thing DW wants to do is shell out a six-figure purse to a fighter that isn't fighting worth a dayum. Even though it would have been lower than the original figure, it would still be a waste of money and resources.

Cro Cops ultimate goal is to win the UFC HW championship belt and DW believes he still has the potential to accomplish that goal. CC's plan when he signed with the UFC was, "I will become Champion after three matches. I will need two and a half or three months off between each match. I expect to hold the UFC belt by the Summer. Then I want Pride Champion Fedor Emelianenko, Vs Me the UFC Heavyweight Champion on New Years Eve."

This is from Cindy Ortiz a very very reliable source.

I knew there was something we didn't know. CC wouldnt just abandon us in the US like that. WAR CRO COP!

Hopefully.

Maybe he'll pull a Patrick Cote, but at a different level.

Re: Cro cop clarification

Oh yeah!  I knew that CC had a reason for what he did and I'm so happy to hear that him and Dana aren't in a pissing contest over who is right.

Re: Cro cop clarification

Regardless of what Cro Cop does, I will always support the guy...but this is great news if it's true, should satisfy the people that have jumped off the Crowagon....

It makes sense too I suppose, plenty of fighters who lose in the UFC go to another organization and then return once they've accumulated some victorys, it's just never really gone international and involved such a high ranked MMA fighter.  I'm pumped....

Cro Cop / Mousasi / Minowa / Marquardt / Hornbuckle / Thiago / Aldo / Rizzo

Re: Cro cop clarification

I certainly hope Cro-Cop returns one day to claim UFC victory.

On another note, Stipe don't abandon us. I hope you'll still visit our site and keep giving us news from Croatia. You'll just have to deliver the news in the "General MMA section" in most cases.

Re: Cro cop clarification

I don't see it happening. There are plenty of "tune up" fights he could take in the UFC, and at the same time be gaining valuable cage experience, which he'll be the first to admit is his biggest weakness. I don't see how fighting in a ring and kicking ham and eggers in the head is going to prepare him to avenge his losses in a cage. I think that if he really intended on making a Douglas MacArthur type return, then he wouldn't leave the UFC in the first place. Of course I'd love to see him raise the belt, but at this point in time it's extremely doubtful that he'll do so, and not even likely that he'll ever come back. Actions speak louder than words, and he's running like hell.

Even Quinton Jackson has stated after his losses to Wand and Shogun that after a fighter loses in a highlight real way, he needs a few tune up matches to get his confidence back up. He says hats why he lost to shogun and had a very poor showing against murilo ninja. I think its very true. Look at Wand, he lost to a brutal KO from Mirko and his next fight is against Dan Henderson? Thats why he had a poor showing against Dan.

Everyone wants a shot at the title, but they have to beat Anderson Silva to get it.... laughs.. that sucks! - Dana White

Re: Cro cop clarification

STIPE:

Thanks for all of the CC info. It is greatly appreciated!!!

I think if you are a pro MMA HW with a mental disadvantage, you are actually risking serious injury by continuing to face top competition.  If Cro Cop NEEDS this, then he needs it and I respect him as a man for making a tough decision.

Do you do drugs Danny?

Re: Cro cop clarification

Whatever CC needs to do to get back on track than so be it. At least it was an amicable parting of ways. If all goes well, he'll return and possibly avenge losses to GG/Kongo in the future and work his way back up to the HW title. But for now, I support him in whatever he chooses to do.

War Cro Cop!!

Re: Cro cop clarification

I don't remember anyone ever even assuming it was a pissing contest with Dana White.  Just thinking logically, it had to have ended up like it did.  I mean, as a business, you cant hold on to talent that is overpaid when you've got bigger stars that are underpaid, and everybody around the table knows it.  It'd be like if I screwed up twice at my job, my boss'd be a moron not to have a little sit down about my worth to the company.  I saw this exactly as it came down.  Now in the case of CC doing the tune up fights, they had better be in some sort of cage or he's not really adjusting to anything but winning which wont be what he'll be doing in the UFC.  I think he needs an org. that fights in a cage.

Re: Cro cop clarification

tune up fights, what the hell were Sanchez, Gonzaga & Kongo.  Lets get real guys.  It's not like he came to the UFC and lost to Timmy and Randy.  These were all tune up fights.  So Pete, while you are still wrong with hockey and lack honor, I do agree with you here. wink

Tito is an idiot. When he was good I had to put up with his shit and now that he sucks, I don’t have to anymore. - Dana fucking White.

Yeah, add that to the fact that fighting in a ring not using the unified rules or an athletic commission's oversight won't help him improve in the UFC at all.  I am/was a huge CroCop fan, but I am not letting that blind me to the fact that he isn't acting at all like a champion.

Right you are. And that would reflect 2 out of the 3 days you actually work in the entire year. It's not like it's a full time job for Cro Cop... if I showed up and let my job annihilate me 66% of the time, I'd be looking for a new job too.

I would like to see him back in the UFC, I just don't know how fighting in a ring under a different rule set will help him succeed in the UFC.
